The Wuzhong district of Suzhou, 90 kilometres east of Shanghai on the lower Yangtse River, is Rotorua’s sister city in China. The district has a population of around 580,000 spread over 17 towns. Wuzhong is an historical and cultural district, and is the original area of the famous Wu culture that can be traced back more than 10,000 years.
Suzhou’s development centre has led to investment in the area by more than 90 Fortune 500 companies operating in areas such as consumer electronics, plastics, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, footwear, industrial machinery and electronics and petrochemicals.
